GEPNCR collaborates with UP NEC, NAMRIA and UP DGE for the proposed UP Hydrography center.

A productive discussion was held today among NAMRIA, NEC, TCAGP, and GEP-NCR on the proposed establishment of a Philippine Hydrography Center, envisioned to strengthen the countryโ€™s capability in hydrographic surveying, mapping, training, certification, research, and professional services.

The discussion covered a long-term phased development of the Center, beginning with hydrography-related certification programs, followed by expanded professional services, and eventually a dedicated institution for research, extension, and capability development.

Leading the meeting were Commodore Carter Luma-ang of NAMRIA; Dr. Jak Sarmiento, Dep. Executive Director of NEC; Engr. Sarah Samalburo-Del Rosario, President of GEP-NCR; and Dr. Ayin Tamondong, Director of the TCAGP, together with colleagues from the participating institutions.

As an immediate next step, the NEC will prepare the partnership framework document, while NAMRIA will review existing hydrography-related training programs and identify potential offerings that may be developed through the partnership. GEP-NCR will explore CPD accreditation and conduct initial market scoping to better understand potential industry demand and help support the Centerโ€™s sustainability.
The initiative underscores the value of a strong partnership among government, academe, industry, and the geospatial profession. This collaboration can help ensure that hydrographic capability development is accesible, sustainable, and aligned with national priorities.
